Wild Estuaries: Sea Snails

During my travels exploring the estuaries, I came across two species of snails; Marsh Periwinkle and the Mangrove Periwinkle.

Marsh Periwinkle

Marsh periwinkles feed on the algae collected on the blades of saltmarsh cordgrass. They are a nutritional food source for crown conchs and blue crabs

Mangrove Periwinkle

The mangrove periwinkles also feed on the fungi and algae growing on mangrove trees, as some research suggested more likely on red mangroves trees.
