Racoon

What an opportunity I had… to actually photograph a mother racoon and her babies.

I noticed a Racoon crossing the road and then two little ones followed behind her. I got out of the car and proceeded to find where she went.  She was climbing up a tree as her two little ones followed behind her.

Ya know how sometimes things happen for a reason… well, this was that time.

Because these are small roads another vehicle needed to pass by, so I had to get back into my car and drive ahead until I found a place to pull over and as I did I was contemplating whether I should go back and get more photos. I decided to go back and very glad I did! First I drove by the tree where they were at and turned around heading back to the tree.

This is the story of a little kit who could have lost its way…

As I was driving back to the tree I see this little scrawny thing cross the road. I stop near the tree and get out to find it. I figured this little guy was preoccupied at the last location didn’t realize that its family moved on.

I hear the mother calling for its young and the little one calling back. The kit finally picked up its mother scent and started to climb the tree and it was a lengthy climb for this little racoon!

So I stayed cheering. “You can do this! You’re half way there!”

“You’re half way there buddy… you can do this!” I was cheering while fighting off the mosquitos and biting flies!

Almost there!

It was so cute when the kit looked down at me as it rested on the tree limbs.  “Keep going.. You can do this!”

Finally made it!

“YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! You made it! Good for you little one… Stay strong and I hope you live a wonderful, safe and adventurous life at Chassahowitzka!”

All accounted for!

So many times photographers rarely have the opportunity to capture moments like these in natural habitats especially in areas like Chassahowitzka WMA. You have to be there at the right moment and the right place, it’s kind of like nature will let you photograph amazing moments when she wants you to and ya know what, I truly believe that.

Thank you for sharing this moment!
